Anlässlich von Johannes Urzidils vierzigsten Todestag (3. Februar 1896 - 2. November 1970) sollen Anfang Mai 2010 Leben und Werk dieses wichtigen Prager Schriftstellers im Mittelpunkt einer interdisziplinären wissenschaftlichen Tagung in Ústí nad Labem (Aussig an der Elbe) stehen, auf der nicht nur Urzidils vielfältiges Gesamtwerk sondern auch seine Bedeutung als Erzähler und Lyriker sowie als politischer Zeitungs- und Rundfunkjournalist, Verfasser von kunst-, kultur-, literatur- und landesgeschichtlichten Essays und Monographien sowie Übersetzer aus dem Tschechischen und Englischen vorgestellt und diskutiert wird.

In the year of the fortieth anniversary of Johannes Urzidil´s (1896-1970) death the international and interdisciplinary conference will deal with manifold aspects of life and work of this important Bohemian author, who called himself "hinternational". This conference will deal with Urzidil's multifaceted work, not only with his narrative and poetic writings but also with his political newspaper articles, his essays about art, culture and history, and his translations of Czech and English poetry. The lectures will represent the international research of Urzidil, they will be given on many different aspects of Urzidil's life and work, from literary, cultural, historical, and linguistic points of view.
