Anhand Urzidils Lebenswerkes Goethe in Böhmen wird sein Verhältnis zur tschechischen Kultur untersucht. Aus dem Vergleich der ersten Ausgabe mit den Nachkriegsausgaben geht klar hervor, dass Urzidils Interesse später wesentlich gestiegen ist. Entscheidende Schlüsselfigur ist dabei die des tschechischen Naturwissenschaftlers Johann Evangelista Purkyně, dessen 150. Geburtstag in der politisch angespannten Atmosphäre des Jahres 1937 gefeiert wurde und Anlass zu verschiedenen politischen Manifestation gab.Spätestens zu dieser Zeit erteilt Urzidil dem Nationalismus jeglicher Art eine Absage und findet zu seinem "Hinternationalismus".

Based on Urzidil's Opus Magnum "Goethe in Böhmen" examines his relationship to Czech culture. The comparison of the first edition with the post-war editions shows that Urzidil's interest later significantly increased. Crucial is the key figure of the Czech nature scientist and politician Johann Evangelista Purkyně whose 150th Birthday was celebrated in the politically tensed atmosphere of 1937 and gave rise to political manifestation. At the latest at this time Urzidil rejects any kind of nationalismus.He found his way of thinking that he called with the original German word "Hinternationalismus" .
