Die Tagung galt einer Bestandsaufnahme interkultureller Konzepte. Dabei geht es darum, einen Überblick über Modellierungen interkultureller Phänomene in verschiedenen Weltregionen, Theoriekulturen und Fächern zu schaffen. Das Interesse ist dabei jedoch nicht darauf gerichtet, aus den vorgestellten Konzepten ein "General-Konzept" zur vermeintlich einzig angemessenen Beschreibung interkultureller Konstellationen zu synthetisieren, sondern vielmehr die weltweite sowie fachspezifische Unterschiedlichkeit solcher Konzeptualisierungen in den Blick zu nehmen und diese Vielfalt zur Grundlage der wissenschaftlichen Fortentwicklung interkultureller Germanistik zu machen. Das Ziel ist somit, eine Inventur der ganzen Spannbreite möglicher Konzeptualisierungen von Interkulturalität vorzunehmen, um auf dieser Grundlage eine notwendig vielfältige Theoriebildung weiter zu entwickeln - nicht nur im Rahmen einer (kulturwissenschaftlich geöffneten) Literaturwissenschaft, sondern auch aus der Sicht der Linguistik, Mehrsprachigkeitsforschung, Didaktik, von Deutsch als Fremdsprache und der Translationswissenschaft sowie aller weiteren Fächer, die ihre Beiträge zu dieser generellen Frage für produktiv erachten und komplexe interkulturelle Phänomene diagnostizieren bzw. über deren angemessene Beschreibbarkeit reflektieren.

The goal of the conference was an inventory of intercultural concepts. The aim is to provide an overview of the modeling of intercultural phenomena in different world regions, theoretical approaches, and research areas. The interest is, however, not aimed at synthesizing a "general concept" - the supposedly one appropriate description of intercultural constellations -, but rather to take into account the global as well as the specific differences of such conceptualizations and make this diversity the starting point for the further development of Cross-Cultural German Studies. The goal is thus to carry out an inventory of the whole range of possible conceptualizations of cross-cultural approaches, in order to develop a necessarily diverse theory formation - not only in the context of both theory of literature and cultural studies, but also from the perspective of Linguistics, Multilingualism, Language Teaching, German as a Foreign/Second/Third Language, and Translation Studies, as well as of all other subjects which consider their contributions to this general question to be productive and to diagnose complex intercultural phenomena, or to reflect on their describability.
