The article presents the contemplation of the author about the universality of notions of Jan Mukarovsky - an outstanding representative of the Prague linguistic school at the beginning of the 20th century. In his monographs "Studies in Aesthetics" and "Studies in Poetics" the critic has developed the concept of the aesthetic, given numerous definitions of the aesthetic function and possible means of its realization. The excerpts quoted explain the psychology of stereotypes in accepting culture on the whole. The ideas of Mukarovsky are limited through its schematism, they are structural patterns, which allow for the evaluation of different states of cultural components, which allow for comparison, confrontation and analysis. His notion of the aestheticfunction and components linked to it, characterize development through change, through transformation.
