Possibility of alkali attack to concrete pavement from external sources
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Recently, there have been cases of lower durability related to concrete pavements in the transport infrastructure in the Czech Republic. One of the main causes seems to be the increased amount of alkalis in the concrete, which may not have come only from individual components or through winter maintenance. This paper describes a research activity which deals with possibilities of alkali attack from the surrounding environment. The pilot testing provides valuable information on alkalis concentrations in real conditions. Soil and groundwater samples around the concrete pavement were taken from a highway section and the results of laboratory testing according to selected procedures were compared. The authors try to find a relationship between expansive reactions and the effect of the external environment. The determination of alkali concentration in different media, where sodium and potassium here critical for concrete, was derived from the conclusions and will be important for the use of measures in practice.
