Road pavement variable parameters include surface noise. This parameter is monitored by the CPX method on various types of road surfaces in the Czech Republic as low-noise pavements, asphalt surfaces with different maximum aggregate sizes, or concrete pavements with various surface treatments. The intention is to use the measured and analysed data to determine of classification levels for assessment of road surface noise. This classification is not yet established in the Czech Republic. In this paper, some results serving as a background for such evaluation are presented, specifically comparison of exposed aggregate cement concrete with the highest grain size of 8 mm (EACC 8) with stone mastic asphalt with the highest grain size of 11 mm with increased resistance to permanent deformation (SMA 11S), and comparison of SMA 11S with low-noise surfaces BBTM and SMA. Results of EACC 8 and SMA 11S based on eight years of monitoring show that the noise levels measured on both these surface types are similar over their lifetime and exhibit logarithmic acoustic behaviour. Noise levels of low-noise surfaces increase faster each year than in the case of SMA 11S.
