The main objective of the OECD THAI HM-2 test was the study of a hydrogen cloud erosion by a steam plume. The test contributes to a data base for the validation of computer codes that simulate the hydrogen distribution within the course of a hypotheticalsevere accident in a containment of a nuclear reactor. Blind and open post test analyses of this test have been performed with the MELCOR code. The blind simulation confirmed capability of the MELCOR code to model the most important phenomena ? hydrogencloud formation and its erosion by the steam plume, but experimental results were not absolutely well matched due to assumptions of the nodalization used. Based on the observations from the blind simulation the improved input model was developed. Its axial discretization is more detailed and it matches better the axial profile of hydrogen concentration at the end of the filling phase and consequently the erosion by the vertical steam plume.
