Der Entkopplungspunkt (EP) trennt prognosegetriebene und auftragsgetriebene Teile einer Materialflusses in einem Produktionsbetrieb. Der EP ist ein Punkt im Materialfluss, bis wohin ein Kundenauftrag eintreten kann. In diesem Punkt ändert sich die unabhängige Nachfrage in die abhängige Nachfrage nach Materialien, Rohstoffen und Zwischenerzeugnissen. Fünf mögliche fundamentale EP - Grundlagen wären zu finden: (1) Prognosegetriebene Massenfertigung, (2) Auftragsbezogene Distribution, (3) AuftragsbezogeneEndmontage, (4) Auftragsbezogene Fertigung und (5) Auftragsbezogene Konstruktion.

The customer order decoupling point (CODP) separates the part of the material flow driven by forecasting and planning from the part driven by actual customer orders. The CODP is also a main stock point, from there the customers´ demand is satisfied. Theindependent demand is changed into the dependet demand for raw materials, components and half-finished product in the CODP. Five fundamental positions of the CODP in the material flow are found in the companies: (1) make and ship to stock, (2) make to stock, (3) assemble to order, (4) make to order and (5) engineer to order.
