Discovering the Lean Production Secrets on the Verge of Industry 4.0

The book is devoted to implementation of the Lean Production concept in conditions of existing macro- and microenvironmental trends at high-technology enterprises. The authors provide an in-depth analysis of such phenomena as globalization, economic integration and development, and their influence on the enterprise competitiveness. The authors go on to study the concept of “Industry 4.0”, assessing how it shapes market structures. As high-technology enterprises play an essential role in the advent of Industry 4.0, the book provides insight into benefits of implementing innovative managerial approaches at such enterprises – namely, the Lean Production concept. The authors demonstrate in detail the potential fields of the Lean Production application, its influence on the market value of a high-technology business. The proposed approaches to implementation of Lean Production, Lean Logistics, and development of the value-oriented strategy are supported by real cases, extensive and clear calculations, including an element-by-element analysis of financial statements from the point of Lean Production. Using the Lean Production concept, the authors illustrate how innovative managerial approaches not only generate additional profit, transform traditional cost centers into profit centers, create value – but also how such innovations refine the structure of the intellectual capital of an enterprise. A detailed example demonstrates the unique nature of unidentifiable intangible assets as a potential intellectual asset. The authors provide a concise approach to managing value of unidentifiable intangible assets and have tested it viability at a European enterprise.
