Pozornost článku je zaměřena na odraz tržních struktur v ekonomice regionů na počátku čtvrté průmyslové revoluce, které představují jeden z významných atributů konkurenceschopnosti, a to na vzorku českých krajů. Cílem je zhodnotit vybrané momenty ekonomiky regionů ve vztahu k existujícím tržním strukturám prezentovaných velikostními kategoriemi firem. Kromě toho poukázat na implikaci pro veřejnou podporu malých a středních firem. Zkoumáno je pětileté období, v jehož středu se nachází rok 2014, kdy byl explicitně identifikován Průmysl 4.0. Variabilita jednotlivých parametrů je analyzována pomocí variačního koeficientu, korelační analýza je aplikována pro posouzení vztahu tří velikostních kategorií firem k regionálním investicím. Analýze předchází Dixonův test odlehlých hodnot. Základem rozvoje ekonomiky spojeného s Průmyslem 4.0 jsou investice realizované v jednotlivých krajích. Zodpovězena je otázka, zda regionální investice souvisejí s podílem firem jednotlivých velikostních kategorií. Zjištěny jsou regionální odlišnosti ve vytvořeném hrubém domácím produktu, které jsou větší než odlišnosti v počtu firem jednotlivých velikostních kategorií. Na základě relevantních údajů je konstatováno, že podpora malých a středních firem má svá opodstatnění a potenciál pozitivních efektů pro ekonomiku i v období Průmyslu 4.0.

The purpose is to assess certain aspects of the regional economies in relation to the existing market structures represented by the size categories of companies and, in addition to that, to highlight implications for public support of small and medium-sized enterprises. The paper examines a period of five years with the year 2014, when Industry 4.0 was explicitly identified, lying in the middle of this period. Variability of parameters is analysed by means of the coefficient of variation, while correlation analysis is applied to evaluate the relationship between three size categories of companies and regional investment. The analysis was preceded by the Dixon’s test of outliers. The aim of this paper is to investigate the market structures representing one of the most significant attributes of competitiveness and how they are reflected in a selected sample of Czech regional economies at the beginning of the fourth industrial revolution. Investment made in each of the regions became the basis for the development of the economy connected to Industry 4.0. The paper answers the question of whether regional investment is related to the involvement of companies belonging to various size categories. It was discovered that regional differences in gross domestic product are bigger than differences in the number of companies belonging to each size category. It was concluded, based on relevant data, that the support of small and medium-sized enterprises is justified and that there are also potential positive effects for the economy in the era of Industry 4.0.
