En la compleja estructura de la famosa novela de Cervantes hay tres voces: la voz del narrador de la historia, la del autor ficticio, Cide Hamete Benengeli, y la del traductor. Los tres comentan la historia de don Quijote, la calidad de la obra escrita por Benengeli y la calidad de su traducción. Estos comentarios son por una parte un importante elemento lúdico de la novela, por otra parte parodian los libros de caballerías. La importancia de estos elementos en la novela nos lleva a considerar como su tema clave el mismo proceso de la escritura y ficción. Desde este punto de vista, la novela cervantina sería sobre todo una novela sobre la ficción.

In the complex structure of the famous Cervantes´ novel there are three different voices: the voice of the narrator of the story, and those of the fictitious author, Cide Hamete Benegeli, and the translator. The comments made by the three voices on the story of don Quijote, the quality of the writing and translation can be considered as an important source of amusement in the novel and of course they are also an instrument of parody of the novels of chivalry. On the other hand, the importance of these elements in the novel leads us to consider that the key theme of the novel is the very process of writing and creating fiction. Thus, the fiction world of the novel can be understood on three levels: the level of the fiction about the process of creation of the novel, the level of Quijote´ s story and the level of the imaginary world of the main character.
