The paper focuses on impacts of mass immigration and its consequences for perceptions of European and national identity. While Europe is aware of its inner diversity and, moreover, marks diversity as one of its characteristics, current refugee crisis seems to endanger it. The influx of refugees and immigrants inspires to the search for a roots national and cultural identity which is often defined in an opposition to the distinct world of the "others" The paper analyses how immigration influences discussions about the substance of the European and national identity in the connection with further perspectives of European integration.
