From Innovation to Inequality? Navigating the Institutional Risks of the 28th Regime for Small and Midsized EU Member States

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

The latest proposal by the European Commission of a 28th legal regime as part of its ambitious Competitiveness Compass promises better market integration via a new optional legal regime that actors can rely on beyond national regulation. This proposal holds much promise for the future of a cohesive, strong EU. Nevertheless, it should not only be seen as a mere legal simplification but as a core institutional architecture with long term impact. As such small and medium-sized member states such as Czechia must act strategically in order to embed equity safeguards into the architecture of the 28th regime, with active monitoring of distributional effects and contingency plans. Furthermore, in order to avoid further institutional fragmentation, trust among different actors needs to be increased in order to create a strong and stable EU.
