The present chapter focuses on certain aspects concerning identity construction and its articulation in terms of reading and teaching of literature. In particular, the chapter explores issues relating to the concept of Irish-British identity with respectto the (English) literature class in the Czech educational context. Although it may seem that discussion about identity and related issues are somewhat exhausted and due to the past two decades of "constant probing, critiquing, stretching, shrinking ofthe term" people often react in a lukewarm way to similar debates, as far as literature teaching is concerned, it is still topical and definitely worth considering. What is more, the topic of Irish-Britain and especially Northern Ireland and Britain andits reflection in literature often seems rather neglected in the official literary cannon presented to Czech students.
