The lecture, based on CAQDA-based research of representations of the Roma in Czech mainstream mass media in the years 2010-2014, discussed the range of (in)security frames imposed by by media actors in the public discourse, their interplay and dynamics of development. The dynamics and character of representations of the Roma were influenced significantly by continuing waves of moral panics sparkled by the so-called Šluknov riots. Analysis of the build-up and of the initial phases of the moral panics haspointed to the vital role which mid-level and regional political and bureaucratic actors, often connected to the security apparatuses, play immediately before the start of the panic, and to the relation between engagement of certain political and administrative actors in the panics, and their current policy and political activities.
