Le but de cette étude est d’examiner l’effet de la transformation des noms propres, en particulier des noms de lieux, en noms communs. Le cadre théorique de cette étude décrit l’utilisation du terme « nom propre » en français et divers concepts associés à la problématique. Chaque domaine de l’activité humaine est marqué par des traces toponymiques. En français, différents types de fromages, vins, café, desserts, textiles et vêtements ou de nombreuses espèces d’animaux et de plantes sont souvent nommés selon leur lieu d’origine. Cette étude contient une liste de mots dérivés de toponymes d’origine étrangère, qui sont classés selon le type de lieu dont ils tirent leur nom.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the transformation of proper names, most notably toponyms of foreign origin, into appelatives. The theoretical framework of this study describes the usage of the term “proper name” in the French language as well as its other related expressions. Every field of human activity bears some toponymical markings. In French, different types of cheese, wine, coffee, desserts, textiles and clothing or many species of animals and plants have often been named after their places of origin. This study features numerous words that have been derived from toponyms of foreign origin and classified on the basis of their places of origin.
