This paper is topically divided into several parts. First of them is focused on main causes of young people's decreasing interest about natural sciences that is stated in a study with the name Science Education Now: A Renewed Pedagogy for the Future of Europe. The next part is focused on the project-based learning as another way of attracting students to natural science studies and as an alternative to inquiry-based science education. This paper also presents an option of using project-based learning asa possible way to fulfill the most of student key competencies that are defined in General education plans (RVP) for first and second level of education. This fulfillment is a key in nowadays Czech education and therefore all alternatives are welcomed.
