This paper focuses on the field of the numerical simulation of linear problems with non-stationary state of stress. The model chosen was a shock - loaded thin walled free strip made of steel. The aim of this paper is to analyze the orientation on the values of the stress at the crack tip. The cracks were placed both vertical and horizontal on the loading direction. For numerical calculation of the J - integral values, the Lorenzi method was chosen.
