Název v původním jazyce
Finite element model of extra-articular fracture treatment with distal femoral nail
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
One infrequent complication following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is an extra-articular fracture of distal femur. This study concentrates on the simple extra-articular fracture (A1). The orthopedic surgeons use several types of implants for treatment of this type of fracture. The distal femoral nail (DFN) implant was chosen for the preliminary model. Two possibilities of locking of the nail in the femur were considered MINUS SIGN the proximal locking screw placed laterally and ventrally. The response of the DFN implant and femur under load was assesses by simulations using the finite element model of femur with implemented TKA and A1 fracture of distal femur. The femoral head was loaded by a force corresponding to the loading during standing on one foot. The von Mises stress distribution in the DFN implant and the displacement of the femur in all three main directions were analyzed for both options of proximal locking of the nail.
