Real-time dynamic MR images were obtained in the mid-sagittal plane during the vaginal birth, occurring over 2 contractions. For each frame, the fetal brain was manually outlined and an ellipse was fitted on those points. The position of the most inferior point of the pubic symphysis and the tip of the coccyx were marked, and the position of the fetal head was deduced using these reference points. The levator muscle stretch is estimated as the ellipsoid passes through the birth canal using a custom program. The maximum stretch of 248 % was noted on the posterior puborectalis region of the muscle.
