NEEDS OF CHILDREN WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

This article focuses on the key needs of children and adolescents with mental health disorders, based on their own lived experiences. Against the backdrop of a growing number of young people experiencing psychological difficulties, it highlights the limited capacity of healthcare systems to adequately meet their needs. The aim of the study was to identify factors that children consider essential for their recovery, stability, and everyday functioning. The research employed a qualitative grounded theory approach, drawing on 33 semi-structured interviews with young people aged 13–18 who have experienced mental health problems and interacted with support services. The findings emphasize the central role of safe, trusting, and stable relationships in the recovery process. Six main categories of needs were identified, including the need for safety and acceptance, trust, access to information, school support, family understanding, and a sense of identity. The study underscores the importance of a multidisciplinary, sensitive, and participatory approach to care that involves the family, school, and community, and is grounded in principles of respect, relationship continuity, and accessibility.
