Decision-making in work teams: team meetings create specific dynamics; the process of team decision-making is by no means as rational and structured as it is commonly regarded as being. Is it possible to arrive at an understanding of decision-making in meetings through the analysis of talk-in-interaction? If so, which discursive practices dominate the process, and how are these enacted and responded to in multi-party talk? The book presents the results of a longitudinal study of the decision-making process in meetings of one of the larger Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the UK. It applies Conversation Analysis (CA) to the examination of authentic audio data and asserts that this methodology, in particular, enables insights to be obtained into howteam decision-making is managed, structured, and achieved.
