Der Dominikaner, Konvertit und Exilant Georg Holik stellt eine ungewöhnlich interessante Persönlichkeit des 17. Jahhunderts dar, die in ihrem Leben ihre Konfessionsidentität vom Katolizismus zum Luthertum wandelte - und gleichzeitig kann er auch für die Untersuchung von verschiedenen Formen der religiösen Gewalt, bzw. Begrenzung dieses Begriffa dienen. Als ein Kind aus der nichtkatholischen Familie, das von den Jesuiten abgeführt und erzogen wurde, könnte er als ein Opfer begriffen werden, als Dominikaner, der auch die nichtkatholischen Bücher beschlagnahmte, könnte er auch als einen Täter angesehen werden, und als Autor von nichtkatholischen Bücher im Exil trat er gleichzeitig als ein Zeuge der konfessionellen Gewalt auf.

The Dominican, convert and exile, Georg Holik, represents an outstanding example of a seventeenth century individual who, over the course of his life, changed his denominational identity from Catholicism to Lutheranism. At the same time, he is also a valuable source for research into various forms of denominational violence and, alternately, the limitation of this violence. When one considers that Holik?s Protestant parents were taken from him by the Jesuits when he was just a child, it makes sense to perceive him, in the first instance, as a victim of the re-Catholicization endeavours in Bohemia. After he had completed his university studies and been ordained as a priest, Holik worked as an Inquisitor in Plzeň for some time. He was particularly involved with the seizure of non-Catholic books ? and consequently became one of the perpetrators of acts of repression directed towards members of the Protestant denominations. After his flight from Bohemia and conversion to Lutheranism, Holik actually wrote several books with a strongly anti-Catholic orientation that bear witness to the difficult situation for non-Catholics in the Kingdom of Bohemia, and also contain specific examples of religious violence in these lands. Georg Holik?s texts are characterised by their expressive language and critical content, together with their fundamental anti-Catholic approach and the complete rejection of religious violence. In this respect, the question is also raised as to whether this approach on the part of the Protestant Churches did not, in fact, likewise represent an indirect form of exercising violence towards the other church.
