In den Jahren 2012-2013 wurde in der Katastralgemeinde Rovná bei Strakonice in Südböhmen im Rahmen einer archäologischen Rettungsgrabung der große hallstattzeitliche Grabhügel 1 untersucht. Der Grund für die Ausgrabung war eine im Jahr 2009 stattgefundene illegale Beraubung, bei der fünf Bronzegefäße aus dem Boden gerissen worden sind. Die Bronzegefäße für sich allein haben ohne konkrete Kenntnis der Fundumstände und des damals neu identifizierten und unmittelbar bedrohten Grabkomplexes, der Merkmale eines sog. Fürstengrabes aufwies, nur den Wert eines Einzelfundes. Das Programm zur Unterstützung von Projekten internationaler Zusammenarbeit der Akademie věd České republiky, in Kooperation mit dem Archäologischen Institut der Akademie der Wissenschaften der Tschechischen Republik Praha, dem Südböhmischen Museum in České Budějovice, der Südböhmischen Universität in České Budějovice und dem Römisch-Germanischen Zentralmuseum in Mainz, ermöglichte es, eine Rettungsgrabung durchzuführen, bei der moderne archäologische wie naturwissenschaftliche Methoden Anwendung fanden*. Das Projekt fokussierte sich auf eine detaillierte flächige Ausgrabung des bedrohten Grabhügels und die Analyse der archäologischen wie bioarchäologischen Quellen. Die Bronzegefäße befinden sich heute im Eigentum des Südböhmischen Museums in České Budějovice und werden im Römisch-Germanischen Zentralmuseum in Mainz konserviert, rekonstruiert und dokumentiert. Die Metall-, Geweih- und Knochenobjekte werden im Archäologischen Institut Prag konserviert und dokumentiert. Die vorliegende Arbeit legt eine Zusammenfassung der Forschungsergebnisse vor, die während der Untersuchung des Grabhügels 1 in Rovná gewonnen wurden, einschließlich der zeichnerischen und fotografischen Dokumentation der meisten geborgenen Artefakte.

In 2012-2013, the large Hallstatt period burial mound was investigated in the cadastral village of Rovná near Strakonice in South Bohemia as part of an archaeological rescue excavation. The reason for the excavation was an illegal robbery that took place in 2009, when five bronze vessels were torn out of the ground. The bronze vessels on their own have only the value of a single find without concrete knowledge of the circumstances of the find and the then newly identified and immediately threatened grave complex, which had characteristics of a so-called princely grave. The program of support for projects of international cooperation of the Academy věd České republiky, in cooperation with the Archaeological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic Praha, the South Bohemian Museum in České Budějovice, the South Bohemian University in České Budějovice and the Roman-Germanic Central Museum in Mainz, made it possible to carry out a rescue excavation in which modern archaeological as well as natural scientific methods were applied. The project focused on a detailed excavation of the threatened burial mound and the analysis of the archaeological as well as bioarchaeological sources. The bronze vessels are now owned by the South Bohemian Museum in České Budějovice and are being conserved, reconstructed and documented at the Roman-Germanic Central Museum in Mainz. The metal, antler and bone objects are conserved and documented in the Archaeological Institute in Prague. This book presents a summary of the research results obtained during the excavation, including the drawing and photographic documentation of most of the recovered artifacts.
