Jean-Paul Sartre und Emmanuel Lévinas haben als Phänomenoloen eine ausgearbeitete Intersubjektivitätstheorie vorgelegt, in der sie sich einer phänomenologischen Aufweisung des Anderen widmen. Beide sehen die Präsenz des Anderen als eine überaus kraftvolle, faktische Gegenwart, die dem Ich nicht gleichgültig sein kann. Der Andere drängt sich durch seine Präsenz dem Ich gleichsam als ein Ereignis auf. Die Anwesenheit des Anderen hat jedoch – bei beiden Autoren – negative bis traumatische Folgen für das Subjekt. Sartre spricht von der Entfremdung, von der Beraubung der eigenen Möglichkeiten im Moment des Gesehenwerdens vom Anderen. Lévinas spricht von der Infragstellung der eigenen Freiheit. Unter der ethischen „Anklage“ geschieht eine Spaltung des ontologischen Subjekts bis zur Festellung, dass das Ich „eine Geisel“ des Anderen ist. Der Beitrag richtet seine Aufmerksamkeit auf diese traumatische Dimension, die sich in der eigentümlichen Erfahrung der Begegnung mit dem Anderen ihre Bahn bricht. Nicht thematisiert werden die Fragen nach dem Verhältnis zwischen Trauma und der Psychoanalyse oder nach der Relation zwischen der biographischen traumatischen Erfahrungen und dem philosophischen Werk von Sartre und Lévinas.

Jean-Paul Sartre and Emmanuel Lévinas have presented as phenomenologists an elaborate theory of intersubjectivity in which they devote themselves to a phenomenological account of the Other. Both see the presence of the Other as an extremely powerful, factual presence that cannot be indifferent to the self. Through its presence, the Other imposes itself on the I, as it were, as an event. However, the presence of the Other has - for both authors - negative to traumatic consequences for the subject. Sartre speaks of alienation, of the deprivation of one&apos;s own possibilities at the moment of being seen by the Other. Lévinas speaks of the questioning of one&apos;s own freedom. Under the ethical &quot;accusation&quot;, a splitting of the ontological subject occurs until it is established that the I is &quot;a hostage&quot; of the Other. The article focuses on this traumatic dimension, which breaks through in the peculiar experience of the encounter with the Other. It does not address the questions of the relationship between trauma and psychoanalysis or the relationship between biographical traumatic experiences and the philosophical work of Sartre and Lévinas.
