Spielberger´s trait-state anxiety theory suggests that persons high in trait anxiety have a greater tendency to percieve ego-involving situations as threatening, and hence, they are expected to respond to this situation with elevated state-anxiety (A-state). To test this hypothesis measurements of A-trait (low vs. high) as a between subject factor, measurements of stress level (low vs. high) as a within subject factor, and measurements of state anxiety as dependent variable were made on 24 top-level handball female players. Statistical analysis revealed marginally significant (p<.08) person-situation interaction only. Tosolve many inconsistent findings, both in this study and in the international literature in this field, the authors suggest the approach of reversal theory in sence of telic and paratelic dominant. Telic dominant is connected with concept concentration on values outcomes and consequences, while paratelic dominant corresponds with pleasure on performing an activity. The
