The monograph deals with the comparative analysis of several works of English and American literature against the background of the aesthetic category of the sublime and its historical metamorphoses. Particular interpretations draw on the various aspects of the sublime (Longinus, Dennis, Burke, Kant, Lyotard, Derrida) and they include the following authors: M. Shelley, N. Hawthorne, E. Brontë, CH. Brontë, J. Rhys, J.K. Rowling, Ch. Priestley, L. Snicket.
