At a time of the shortening of the product life cycles, the open economy and an environment, described as hyper-competitive, it is essential that the enterprises come up with innovations. Only then they are able to stay competitive. Innovation management is rather a complex field. This paper presents the results of a pilot research mapping innovative management in small and medium-sized enterprises of different industries. The research focuses on three aspects of innovation management that influence the success of innovation management. These are financing innovation, working with external actors and barriers to implementing innovation
