Towards Sustainability: Advancing Bioeconomy Development in the EU
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The bioeconomy involves the use of renewable biological resources such as crops, forests, fish, animals and micro-organisms to produce food, materials and energy. There isgreat optimism within the European Union about the benefits and opportunities that itsdevelopment will bring. The path taken by the community of states towards sustainabilityinvolves creating a set of accessible indicators to measure the development of thebioeconomy at the EU member state level. The indicators should be largely identical to thoseof the green economy. The aim is to describe the development of the bioeconomy in the EUusing a set of selected indicators. Furthermore, the paper should answer the question: Arethere the same driving forces in the development of the bioeconomy as in the case of thegreen economy? The results showed that the bioeconomy is developing at the EU level.Additionally, correlations were found between several indicators. A question for futuredirection remains whether the indicators should be expanded, particularly to include socioculturalor other factors.
