The paper deals with contemporary lectures in the Czech university environment. The author?s aim is to contribute to the solution of the problem of a low attendance of students in lecture halls. What are the possible reasons of this situation and what isa possible solution which could be used? Firstly, the current state of the problem is described. Secondly, the author tries to find approaches which should lead to the higher interest of students in lectures. Basic terms are defined. The lecture is defined as an object and its connections to surrounding environment are described. The point of view of a student is included and his/her assessment of a lecture is stated. Finally, some conclusions are offered for discussion.
