    Ensuring the correct anti-skid resistance properties is one of the basic premises for airport air traffic safety. This process consists of many measures from maintenance, repairs, and surface condition monitoring. The objective of this research is to examine the conditions at Air Force bases. However, the findings apply to all airports with paved airfields. The current and established procedure comprises periodic measurements using Continuous Friction Measuring Equipment (CFME). The legislative regulations require the observation of the conditions of surface texture, but there is no established method for its measurement. This paper focuses on the introduction of the different methods for measuring surface macrotexture and the selection of the most suitable one for airport services personnel's periodic measurements. Two methods for measuring surface macrotexture have been selected that apply to both rigid and flexible airport pavements. Their efficiency and applicability in the conditions of military airfields of the Czech Armed Forces were compared. Practical measurements on airfields practically tested the methods and then the volumetric method was selected. The volumetric method best corresponds to the requirements set out in this paper. The method is simple, materially, and financially economical. In short, it is simple for use by airport personnel.
