Agrarian sector represents one of the most important sectors of the current world economy. Its power does not lie in the generation of earnings and profits, but its main and unfungible role in the world economy lies in the ability to satisfy the basic human needs and to give basic raw materials to other sectors of the world economy. The article is a part of the long term research, which is conducted by its authors (Luboš Smutka, Michal Steininger). The article analyzes the development of the world agricultural supply (production) and demand (consumption). The main part of the article is devoted to detailed analyses of the following categories which are connected with the world agricultural supply and demand development: world agricultural production and reserves, agrarian exports and imports and structure of the consumption (feed, seed, waste, foodstuff industry, other usage).
