Current society is often called a knowledge society, and knowledge is one of the most important development sources. Knowledge is often classified as explicit and tacit because there is a significant difference between these basic types. Both explicit and tacit knowledge is important for regional development, but tacit knowledge seems to be more important particularly for rural areas due to the specific conditions of rural areas, and usually a lack of explicit (codified) knowledge. The importance of tacit knowledge is also consistent with an endogenous approach to rural development. These are the main reasons for choosing the topic of this paper, which is focused on knowledge creation and knowledge dynamics within particular rural areas of the Czech Republic. The paper is focused on specialized institutions for education within the rural areas which are called "Schools for Rural Renewal".
