The paper is focused on one of the often-mentioned tendencies in current regionalism, which is related to the position and mission of the regional press. The subject matter is framed by the phenomenon of mass communication in globalized society. The present "disembeddedness" of the social human world is also reflected in the emphasis on local communication, although it is implemented through the means of mass communication. The main question of this study is whether local newspapers perform the role ofan intermediary in providing information about activities related to local development. This issue also indirectly affects the question of the actorship of local media in regional development. Within the empirical study, a quantitative approach to mediacontent was used. Overall, 535 articles were analysed and official press news covering information on (a) towns and their activities enhancing the quality of life of local inhabitants; (b) projects that were implemented in terms of public
