In this paper, we react on the particular study on the performance evaluation of selected countries. For this purpose, the author of the study also used the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). But way of the application of the TOPSIS method is incorrect; it is not in concordance with the original TOPSIS method. We describe the error including necessary proofs. Also we analyse the consequences of the error and its impact on the results presented. We show that the overall distortion of results in not so serious; nevertheless if the performance of a smaller and homogeneous group of countries is evaluated, the positions of individual countries can be radically misinterpreted.
