In todays globalized world there is an increasing emphasis on financial education. The aim of this paper is to assess the level of financial literacy among full time higher education students in relation to their own finances. Primary data were obtained by a quantitative research using a questionnaire survey (n = 446) during the autumn of 2017 amongst full time bachelors and masters degree students at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, Charles University in Prague. The results show that 95% of students responded yes or rather yes to the question if they are aware of the state of their finances while 5% of respondents were not aware of their instantly disposable income. 80% of the respondents monitor their personal income and expenditures by doing a budget, mostly by means of internet or computer applications. 20% of respondents do not monitor their own finances either, because they do not consider it necessary or they do not have time.
