Language Rights of Minorities and Immigrants in Czechia and Poland
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This book explores linguistic rights of national minorities and immigrant communities, with focus on the case studies of the Vietnamese and Ukrainian communities in Czechia and Poland. The analysis combines methodologies and draws on the theories of law and linguistics and includes the assessment of three distinct data-sets. The texts of international law and national laws of the two countries are analysed using doctrinal legal methodology. Narratives of immigrant community representatives in documentary films and interview responses of leading figures of minority organizations are examined using the discourse-historical approach of critical discourse analysis. The ultimate aim of this study is to find out how the discursive construction of the observed communities forms their positions in domestic legislatures. The prime objective of this research project is to contribute to the body of knowledge about the contemporary legal arrangements regarding language rights of immigrant communities and national minorities and to explore any possible inequalities in how the law is applied for various immigrant groups.
