Knowledge and Wisdom of Farmers in Tropical Agricultural Systems: Ethnobotanical Knowledge in Tank Cascade Systems of Sri Lanka
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Agrobiodiversity has been a popular research topic over the last few decades due to its biological, economic, and environmental significance. The traditional knowledge associated with agrobiodiversity has also been discussed elsewhere emphasizing its significance and potential to integrate with modern agricultural knowledge in a regional, and global scale. The aim of this article was to discuss the traditional knowledge linked with the three selected main traditional agricultural ecosystems in Sri Lanka. Further, we aimed to use such unique ethnobotany knowledge to provide a platform for ethno-biologists and researchers working on related sciences. This article discussed ethnobotany knowledge in relation to ecosystems, species, and genetic diversity, particularly focusing on rice based farming system, chena cultivation and Kandyan homegarden systems in Sri Lanka. Furthermore, this article highlights the potential of integrating this ethnobotanical knowledge with modern agricultural practices to address contemporary challenges effectively. We are confident that the content of this work will provide a new perspective and pave the way for studying, conserving, and effectively utilizing the ethnobotany knowledge found within tropical agricultural ecosystems.
