Mária Orišková, Curating “Eastern Europe” and Beyond: Art Histories through the Exhibition
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
In a similar way to the previous publications, Orišková’s anthology Curating ‘Eastern Europe’ and Beyond: Art Histories through the Exhibition is dealing with a problem introduced to art history by current artistic practice, the problem of the exhibition as a specific art medium, in which an exhibition is raised to the level of an independent unit of significance. Interpreted in this fashion, the exhibition has become, in the last two decades, the subject of extensive art-historical research. This shift in the understanding of the exhibition is, of course, of special significance for the art history of the countries of the former Eastern Bloc, for it is with the help of exhibition presentations, rather than through written histories, that the art of this region has been introduced to the western public. Due to the temporary nature of their subject of interest the history of exhibitions corresponds in addition to the provisional and fragmentary approach, which Orišková emphasised in her previous book Dvojhlasné dejiny umenia.
