Characterization of glazed relief decorated floor tiles from Prague
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Ceramic tiles as a sophisticated and important part of architecture have been used for the surface treatment of the walls and floors from antiquity. Although ceramic tiles act as decorative and relatively resistant surface finishing of a building, they are susceptible to environmental conditions which could lead to their deterioration. Lead glazed ceramic tiles from Prague were characterized in order to have detailed knowledge about them. X-ray fluorescence and diffraction with combination of optical and scanning electron microscopy were used for their characterization. The project showed that historical ceramic tiles of studied set of fragments are of similar character and composition. Moreover the XRF and XRD unveiled the corrosion of the glaze and the presence of phosphates.
