Impact of Air Pollution to the Oxidative Damage in Newborns
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Background. The Northern Bohemia was from seventhies one of the most polluted region in Europe. Therefore the impact of air pollution was studied in newborns in the previously exposed district Most (M) and control district Ceske Budejovice (CB). Methods. Urine and cord blood from 100 newborns was collected in summer 2016-7 and winter 2017 in each district. Concentrations of c-PAHs (carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) were determined from HiVol samples of PM2.5. As biomarkers were determined oxidative damage by 8-oxodG adducts and monohydroxylated PAHs (OH-PAHs) in urine. Results. Concentrations of PM2.5 in summer were 11.22±5.13 g/m3 in M, 10.45±4.89 g/m3 in CB, in winter 25.12±24.46 g/m3 and 24.42±18.39 g/m3, respectively. Concentrations of B[a]P (benzo[a]pyrene) in summer were 0.25±0.53 ng/m3 in M, 0.29±0.0.60 ng/m3 in CB, in winter 0.87±0.81 ng/m3 and 1.20±1.36 ng/m3, respectively. 8-oxodG adducts (nmol/mmol creat.) in the urine of newborns in summer were 8.45±4.19 in M vs. 4.92±2.29 in CB (p<0.001), in winter were 8.13±6.44 in M vs. 4.59±1.49 in CB (p<0.001). The sum of OH-PAHs in newborn´s urine from M in the summer as well as winter season was significantly higher compared to CB (p<0.001). Conclusions. No differences in air pollution were observed between two localities. Therefore, the higher oxidative damage and higher concentration of OH-PAHs in the urine of newborns in the district of Most seems to be peculiar. We may hypothesize, that previously exposed population is carrying some long term changes.
