OCCURRENCE OF PESTICIDE RESIDUES IN APPLES: COMPARISON OF LOCALLY GROWN AND IMPORTED APPLES
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
In spite of the importance of their protective role against pests, growing attention is paid to a health risk associated with dietary exposure to pesticide residues occurring in food crops such as apples even under conditions of Good Agriculture Practice (GAP). To minimize residues in apples and protect human environment, Czech farmers select pesticides that rapidly decompose after application leaving residues close, or even below detection limits (LODs) of routine control methods. Contrary to such ´low residue production´, imported apples often contain higher levels of pesticide residues, even in concentrations that exceed Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) and in some cases, pesticide residues, the use of which is not permitted in EU. To obtain up-to-date information about the presence of pesticide residues in locally grown and imported apples, we observed pesticide residue profiles in a set of authentic apples of various varieties using both LC-MS / MS and GC-MS / MS methods. More than 400 compounds were monitored in this study. MRLs for each individual pesticides were evaluated with regard to the "action limits" required by some distribution chains or processors, usually up to 25% MRL. We analysed 265 samples of apples harvested in the Czech Republic (43.4% of total number of samples) and from other countries (56.6%; from which 52% from Poland, 2% from Italy, and 3.6% from Slovakia). Pesticide residues were found in 260 of them (98.10% of tested set). In total, 70 different pesticides were quantified. Maximum Residue Limits were exceeded in 2 samples. In 3 (1.1%) samples, substances not registered in EU for this particular fruit were detected. While acetamiprid, captan, methoxyfenozide, pyraclostrobin and pyrimethanil were most frequently occurring in Czech apples, acetamiprid, boscalid, captan, fludioxonil and pirimicarb sum were most frequently detected in imported ones.
