Performance Art in Czechoslovakia – Remembered, Described, Interpreted, Photographed and Filmed, Sometimes Even Reenacted
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The text is describing the process of Performance Art History writing in Central-Eastern Europe based on the examples from Czech performance art and is examining how this history is presented in today’s museums. Understanding of Performance Art is complicated by the misleading testimony of the preserved documentation or by its absence on one hand and on the other by the timelessness of some of the pieces that have circulated as legends for several decades. When it comes to Performance Art and its “history making” in the West, it all happened in the 1970s, when books by RoseLee Goldberg and Lucy Lippard were published. East “history making” of Performance Art is a different story, it took place in several stages and we are still part of it.
