Introduction to Structural Biology with Focus on X-ray Crystallography: Become a Crystallographer in One Day
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The workshop was aimed at anyone interested in protein structure models. During the intensive one-day workshop, participants learned what information can be obtained from these models, how they are made and what their limitations are. They also learned how to use them in their research. The workshop included both theoretical and practical sessions. Participants learned how to use the Protein Data Bank (PDB) to search for protein targets and how to analyse and interpret the data. They learned how to critically evaluate models generated by Alphafold and were given a brief overview of experimental structure determination using X-ray crystallography of proteins. In the practical part in the laboratory, the participants got to know the crystallisation robot, grew their own protein crystals, observed them under the microscope and tried to manipulate them. Together they also prepared a diffraction experiment on an X-ray diffractometer.nWorkshop was supported by the National Institute for Cancer Research (Program EXCELES, ID Project No. LX22NPO5102) funded by the European Union–Next Generation EU.
