Home care has been developing in the Czech Republic since 1990. It includes a wide range of services provided at a client?s own home, such as professional health services, necessary social services, informal lay services, personal care and help services,and housekeeping. In 2003 an extensive research of 226 seniors - clients of Home Care Agencies took place in Ostrava, the 3rd biggest city in the Czech Republic. If focused on complex data acquisition about old people living at home using the services of home nursing care, concerning their state of health, mental state, social contacts, risks endangering quality of life, problems, needs, ADL, IADL, services provided, diseases and taking medicine. It has also verified in practice the applicability of the standardized assessment instrument MDS-HC for data acquisition, the assessment of clients, as well as its application in home care.
