D?s l?année 1953, l?argot dans les ?uvres de F. Dard est lié au personnage de Bérurier. En tant que représentant des classes populaires, il s?exprime dans la langue verte o? apparaissent non seulement les mots argotiques connus, mais surtout les altérations volontaires de ces mots généralement admis. Les altérations san-antoniesques sont forgées ? l?aide des procédés inhérents ? la langue : ressuffixation, troncation, composition etc. Le but de l?auteur n?est pas de refléter l?usage des mots argotiquestels qu?ils étaient employés, mais il vise ? témoigner du potentiel créatif et de l?aspect ludique de ce registre français. J.-L. Calvet le caractérise plutôt en tant qu?inventeur que l?utilisateur dans le style de Simonen ou Auguste le Breton.

Since 1953 the argot employed in the works of Fréderic Dard has been associated with the character of Bérurier, the Deputy Inspector working with the Superintendent San-Antonio. Bérurier represents working classes and his earthly humour and popular language, which become a dominant characteristic, make use both of existing argotic words as well as his own adaptations of the words. These adaptations result from various word formative processes such as for example resuffixation or derivation of existing words with suffixes, abbreviation, and composition. Dard does not aim at mapping argot as such but the focus is rather on the linguistic creativity and potential of this specific subcode of French. A sound evidence of these features is offered in Clavet?santhology of French argotic literature where San-Antonio is viewed more as an innovator rather than an argot user in the sense of Simonen or August le Breton.
