Crafts and craftsmanship are nowadays an often discussed issue, especially in the political and economic sphere. In my contribution, I will analyse the situation of craftsmanship and the attitude of the Czech society towards handicraft and the services craftsmen offer. In a next step, I am dealing with the crisis of craftsmanship in the Czech Republic or more detailed with the crisis of the vocational school system. The last part of my contribution is based on Richard Sennett´s book ?The Craftsman?, published in 2008. I try to give a wider definition and interpretation of handicraft and craftsmanship and I am dealing with the question if craftsmanship is in conflict with digitisation or if there are any craftsman-skills, which are also very important for the 4th industrial revolution.
