De l’ancienne à la nouvelle orthographe du français : le cas de la presse francophone

L’article examine l’utilisation de l’orthographe traditionnelle et de l’orthographe rec-tifiée du français (1990) dans les textes journalistiques, recherchant l’orthographe la plus ap-pliquée durant la période allant de 2014 à 2021. L’analyse repose sur quatre sous-corpus créés à partir d’un vaste corpus textuel francophone incorporé dans la plateforme Sketch Engine. Les résultats de l’étude mettent en lumière non seulement les variantes graphiques prédominantes dans les sous-corpus analysés, mais aussi une possible corrélation, ou son absence, entre ces graphies et d’autres caractéristiques, telles que l’occurrence des mots sélectionnés, la régionsource et les règles orthographiques en question. Il est à constater que l’ancienne orthographe demeure largement utilisée dans ce domaine dans lequel l’auteur n’est pas tenu de suivre l’orthographe rectifiée.

The article examines the use of traditional and rectified French orthography (1990) in journalistic texts, focusing on the most prevalent type of orthography applied during the period 2014 to 2021. The analysis is based on four sub-corpora created from a large French textual corpus incorporated into the Sketch Engine platform. The study’s findings shed light not only on the predominant graphical variants in the analyzed sub-corpora but also on the potential correlation, or its lack, between these forms and other characteristics such as the frequency in occurrence of selected words, the source country, and the orthographic rules in question. It should be noted that the old orthography remains widely used in this sector, in which the author is not required to follow the rectified orthography.
