El léxico disponible recopilado de los inmigrantes mexicanos en Granada, España, ha proporcionado una oportunidad para explorar no solo las influencias léxicas que la variedad de acogida (la granadina) ejerce sobre la variedad vernácula (la mexicana), sino también la estrecha relación entre los sinónimos geolectales en ciertos centros de interés. El centro de interés de la ropa ha resultado ser el campo más proclive a crear estas uniones. La variable sociodemográfica basada en la convivencia familiar influye tanto en el mantenimien- to como en el debilitamiento de las relaciones entre algunas parejas sinonímicas. Asimismo, a medida que aumenta el tiempo de estancia de los informantes, algunas uniones se vuelven más laxas y se observa una tendencia al uso de la variante más usual en la variedad de acogida. Los resultados obtenidos han proporcionado una mayor comprensión sobre la organización del lexicón mental de la comunidad mexicana en Granada cuando entran en contacto con otra variedad. Este contacto resulta ser de mayor interés por el hecho de que los inmigrantes mexi- canos se enfrentan a la posibilidad de mantener el léxico de su variedad vernácula, la cual es considerada prestigiosa dentro del mundo hispanohablante, o bien adaptarse a la variedad de acogida, la que tiende tanto a la fidelidad al vernáculo andaluz como a la nivelación con el estándar nacional.

The available lexicon collected from Mexican immigrants in Granada, Spain, offers an opportunity to explore not only the lexical influence exerted by the host variety (Granadan) on the vernacular variety (Mexican), but also the close relationships between geolectal synonyms in certain centers of interest. Among these, the center of interest of clothing has proved to be the most prone to generating such associations. The sociodemo- graphic variable of family cohabitation influences both the maintenance and the weake- ning of relationships between some synonymous pairs. Likewise, as the length of stay of the informants increases, certain associations become weaker, and there is a marked ten- dency to adopt the most common variant of the host variety. The results obtained provide a deeper understanding of how the mental lexicon of the Mexican community in Granada is organized when in contact with another variety. This situation is of particular interest, since Mexican immigrants face the choice of either maintaining the lexicon of their verna- cular variety—considered prestigious within the Spanish-speaking world—or adapting to the host variety, which tends to remain faithful to the Andalusian vernacular while also aligning with the national standard.
