Thermal conductivity coefficient λ of materials used in civil engineering affects the value of heat transfer coefficient U very significantly and thus the amount of heat which spreads through the building structures, which is called as heat losses. Based on the U- value there is set and evaluated the quality of building from the thermal-technical view. Thermal insulating ability of structures minimizes the heat losses and also it decreases finances spent for heating energy. Low energy consumption is desirable especially in case of passive or zero-energy objects. One of the insulating materials, which are possible to use for the improvement of thermal insulating ability of structure, is crushed straw. However, the thermal conductivity of this material has never been objectively determined. The aim of this paper is to describe the procedure and results of experimental measurement of thermal conductivity coefficient. For this measurement there was used the cooling box, which is analogy to thermal box standard used for determination of materials thermal conductivity. Measurement using cooling box was accompanied by comparative measurements in a certified laboratory and measuring using ISOMET 2114 device.
